I had this post in draft for over a week now with no sign of ever leaving draft mode. And then came this freezing Saturday that forced me to finish it.
It’s been a very busy year, this 2009. but luckily I didn’t forget to have fun. Under fun I mean traveling, lot’s of movies and a decent amount of gaming.
A funny side note: I have no TV. Been on TV-detox for the past 6 months ever since I moved to the new apartment (no TV signal, did’t like the $20/mo cable TV fee). And it feels awesome. I have more time for another passion now – cooking.
As I mentioned, I returned to gaming. Not too much, perhaps an hour a day, but still enough to feel like computers aren’t all about programming. BTW, I’m talking about Battlefield Heroes.
I did a lot of biking, bought a new bike and trashed it the same day. Guess I’ll have to get a new one for my birthday in March.
I feel like my PHP skills have reached a new level and it’s a shame I started looking at other languages. I’ve been playing with Python / Django for several months now. Same goes for ASP.NET MVC. I think I’ll wait until Microsoft releases version 2 of MVC before I choose my next platform.
Most of my PHP stuff ended up written in CakePHP. Then the team split and another framework was born, Lithium. I have two websites in draft, based on Lithium, just waiting for some time / motivation to finish them. Still waiting for CakePHP 2.0 to hit stable.
Work related, I’m still a freelancer. I guess a regular day job isn’t for me (it might be if a lot of money was on the table).
Image2Markup lost a lot of market share, partially due to a lot of competition in the PSD 2 HTML field, partially due to my poor design capabilities (the old site looked bad). When the new design was launched it was already late. Still, the regular clients still order with us.
Eventio, the events posting site for UK has had a rocky start. We made some great connections, now it’s all about gaining traffic and then a business model.
Just a week ago I thought it’d be impossible, but I started exploring 3D development, again. Left Lightwave3D in favor of 3ds max (this is a huge step for me!).
It’s just 20 days before the end of 2009 and here’s what I have planned for that time: Urban&4 concert (last one was 2 years ago) and a trip to Bratislava for the New Year.
Next post will be about my plans for 2010.
